Mijo Modern Mexican

$ $

One of the first standout restaurants to emerge at Station Casinos’ new Durango resort, Mijo offers coastal Mexican cuisine by the Vegas-born Clique Hospitality, which now operates over two dozen restaurants, bars, lounges and dayclubs in Las Vegas, California and Chicago. And that pedigree shows in the modern décor, creative menu and well-crafted cocktails, and the sounds of their live DJs.

The lush foliage and vaulted ceilings of the main dining room are set back from the casino floor, with guests entering through a hallway that takes them past the attached agave-focused speakeasy, Wax Rabbit. And like many of this resort’s restaurants, the indoor space opens almost effortlessly onto a comfy outdoor patio.

Vegas Prime magazine’s editor in Chief Don Chareunsy says, “I was blown away by ‘the largest steak in Las Vegas,’ a 55-ounce Grilled Tomahawk with elote for $185, and a ginormous charred octopus.” His other favorites include birria short rib, butter-poached lobster tacos, shrimp aguachile ceviche, lobster enchiladas and some desserts.

Food and Loathing host Al Mancini seconds the love for that visually stunning, and incredibly tender, two-pound octopus. And both Modern Luxury’s Emmy Kasten and the Sand Dollar Lounge’s Anthony Jameson, call this one of their favorite openings of 2023.
