Salt & Straw

$

If you’re looking for something simple, Salt & Straw may not be the place for you.

The Oregon-based chain, which has locations in five states, is known for bizarre and unexpected ice cream flavors. Sure, they have Double Folded Vanilla on the menu. But the “classics” here are things like Cinnamon Snickerdoodle, Arbequina Olive Oil and the admittedly acquired taste, Pear & Blue Cheese. And even those look tame, when compared to the rotating monthly specials. One November, for example, Salt & Straw offered five flavors mirroring components of a traditional Thanksgiving feast, from Turkey Stuffing & Cranberry Sauce to Cheesy Potato Casserole. And a month-long Brewers’ Series of flavors included five flavor combinations created from respected craft beers.

Since there is literally no other place in Las Vegas to experience the vast majority of these flavor combinations, the lines at this location in the UnCommons development can be long. But the free pre-ordering samples make it worthwhile. And those who know what they want, and want a large portion, can skip the line to grab a pre-packaged pint.

Be aware: At $12.50 a pint, this ice cream isn't cheap.
